WASSCE Grading System 2023 – How WAEC Calculate Grades

The WASSCE Grading System was introduced to assess students’ performance in the supplementary examinations. It consists of six top subjects, including Mathematics, English, Social Studies, and Integrated Science. The number of subjects you must take depends on your course of study. The WASSCE grade is based on the percentage of your marks.

How to Understand the WASSCE Grading System in Percentage

WAEC has outlined various mark ranges to determine the grade you get in your WASSCE. The WASSCE 2022 grades in percentage are broken down below;

How Do I Calculate My WASSCE Results?

To calculate your WASSCE results properly, sum the 6 best subjects of your results. Including the four core subjects (Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies). Mathematics and English Language is always  a must subject among the core subjects.

If you intend to pursue a Science related programme in university, you need to include Science in your grading but if you do not, then you can consider Social Studies.

When was WAEC Established?

WAEC was established in 1952 and has contributed significantly to education in the West Africa region. The West Africa Examination Council has been very helpful in its mission. Despite being a small organization, it is now a globally-known examination body. Its strong committee and prestigious reputation makes WAEC one of the standards for higher education in the Ghana.
