NOVDEC comes as a second chance for all those that have poor WASSCE grades and would want to improve them. NOVDEC is organised by WAEC as a private exam which does not require candidates to enrol in senior high before writing.
I understand how tough WASSCE is and in some cases you just don’t prepare well enough. You may probably be one of the smart ones but due to grade requirements and cut-off points for various programmes in tertiary institutions, you may just have to rewrite a paper or two to get the chance to study your dream programme.

When is the Deadline for 2024 NOVDEC Registration?
The deadline for 2023 NOVDEC registration is 9th September 2023.
When is the 2024 NOVDEC Starting?
2023 NOVDEC is starting on Monday, 31st October 2023 through to Tuesday 20th December 2023.

How to Register for NOVDEC 2024 – BIOMETRIC
Below is a step-by-step guide to registering for NOVDEC
- Candidates are required to scan their fingerprints. This can be done in a local internet cafe
- Visit the NOVDEC registration website waecgh.org using a web browser, preferably Google Chrome
- Choose the WASSCE for Private Candidates option
- Click on START REGISTRATION HERE
- Complete required security information data like password, security questions, etc.
- Fill in your personal information
- Upload your picture
- Get your signature and upload it online
- Select your preferred Region and Centre for the examination
- Select the subject(s) you intend to write
- Print your voucher and send it to any of the official banks for NOVDEC registration payments (click here to see the list of banks)
- Pay the appropriate fees at the bank
- You will use your PIN/Invoice Number to access your Index Number and Admission

NOVDEC Online Registration Guidelines
Below are guidelines on NOVDEC registration
- The scanned photograph have dimensions of 160px (width) and 200px (height)
- The scanned signature should have dimensions of 250px (width) and 150px (height)
- On completion of the Registration, Click on the Preview Button to review your form
- Click on the Submit button, the system will complete the Registration process and generate an Invoice showing amount due
- You are required to print this invoice and take it to the bank for payment
Penalty
Candidates who wants to change their information and (or) add more subjects are required to use the Penalty module to do so. You will be required to make payment at the bank.
How to Pay for NOVDEC Penalty
To pay for NOVDEC penalty, follow these steps;
- Visit the NOVDEC website (waecgh.org) using a web browser, preferably Google Chrome
- Select Penalty Type
- Make the required modification
- Submit
- Print out the modification invoice and pay in the bank
Point to note
All modifications will not be recorded in the system until payment is made at the bank
Timetable for 2023 NOVDEC
The Timetable for 2023 NOVDEC can be accessed by clicking on the Timetable icon on the WAEC registration website (waecgh.org).
Candidates are advised to study the Timetable carefully in order to avoid a clash of subjects.
Who needs to write NOVDEC?
People who have grade D7 or worse in WASSCE are required to improve their grades by writing NOVDEC to get at least a minimum of C6.
Can I write NOVDEC if I’m still in School?
Yes, you can register to write NOVDEC if you are still in school. Most second year students normally apply to write NOVDEC as an attempt before sitting for their final exam in form 3. Others who are also yet to write WASSCE normally register to write NOVDEC later same year just in case some of their subjects do not go well. This is mostly done as a precaution to avoid delays in applying to tertiary.
What if I write NOVDEC and fail again?
If you write NOVDEC and still end up with bad grade(s), you may have to re-write again or consider a matured entrance programme. There are also various pre-school programmes available in Universities such as GIMPA and Wisconsin which will allow you to go through a 1-year programme to get admitted into a full degree programme.
Others who may get D7 and are not qualified for degree programmes can opt for diploma programmes and later apply for a top degree.
Will NOVDEC replace my WASSCE results?
Your grades from your NOVDEC results can be used instead of your WASSCE if you got better grades. However, if the grades obtained from NOVDEC are worse than that of your WASSCE, they may become obsolete and completely unusable.
How many times can I write NOVDEC?
You can write NOVDEC as many as possible to improve your grades, there are no limits on the number of times you can write NOVDEC.
Can I write NOVDEC after 30 years?
You can write NOVDEC after 30 years, you simply have to go through the application process, make payment and write the exam. This also means, if you did not write WASSCE at all, you can apply for NOVDEC to obtain the certification to further your education in any desired field.
