How to Find a Hostel/Residence on Legon Campus as A Fresher

Are you a University of Ghana freshman? Are you yet to apply to University of Ghana, Legon and you are thinking of accommodation? You are in luck then, as we will be taking a look at the halls of residence and private hostels on the Legon campus, and how to get accommodation.

Halls of Residence and Hostels on Legon Campus

University of Ghana, Legon is the oldest and one of the highest-ranked universities in Ghana and West Africa. Legon is a top student favourite. Each year, Legon admits thousands of students and this sometimes makes accommodation a bit difficult to get. Due to this, it is advisable to be sure of what hall or hostel you will like to be in, so that as soon as it is time for application, you do not waste any time.

How Many Halls/Hostels Are on Legon Campus?

The university of Ghana has 13 halls of residence and 4 private hostels on the main Legon campus:

Halls of Residence:

Traditional Halls

Traditional halls are found on the University of Ghana’s Main Campus and are very close to the various lecture halls. 

  1. Legon Hall
  2. Akuafo Hall
  3. Volta Hall
  4. Commonwealth Hall
  5. Mensah Sarbah Hall

Diaspora

The Diaspora Halls are four separate buildings adjacent to each other. Located near the Noguchi Memorial Center and the University of Ghana Medical centre.

  1. Dr. Hilla Limann Hall
  2. Alexander Kwapong Hall
  3. Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall
  4. Jean Nelson Aka Hall

Others

These halls are found between the traditional halls and the diaspora halls.

  1. International Students Hall
  2. Jubilee Hall
  3. Vikings Hall
  4. Valco Hall (For Graduate Students, only)

How To Apply for Residence on Legon Campus

Below are the steps to take in applying for a hostel/residence on Legon campus

  1. Visit the Student iEnabler portal via ienabler.ug.edu.gh/ in a web browser (preferably Google Chrome.
  2. Log in to your Student iEnabler account.
  3. Look for “Residence Registration” on the left side of the screen and click on it.
  4. Click “Submit Residence Registration”.
  5. Select the year by clicking on it (in blue).
  6. Check the display to confirm your Hall and Room number.
  7. Click “I Accept” to confirm your registration.
  8. Print out the Proof of Residential Registration and keep it for your records.
  9. On the reporting date for Freshmen, go to your Hall of Residence with two copies each of your passport picture and proofs of your academic and residential registration for further assistance.

Kindly note: All students who have been admitted full-time to Legon campus and Korle Bu campus are required to make a residential application. 

The date and time for the residential application will be communicated and students who have paid their academic fees shall receive an SMS with a link to the application portal.

Private Hostels

African Union Hostel (Pent)

There is New Pent (Block A to Block C) and Old Pent (Addis Ababa, Dar Es Salaam, Kampala, Nairobi) Found behind The School Of Engineering.

Evandy Hostel

  • Located next to Bani Hostel and before TF Hostel.

Bani Hostel

  • Found directly opposite the Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC-Legon).

James Topp Nelson Yankah Hostel (TF)

  • Found on the Atomic-Haatso road.

How do I apply for a private hostel on Legon campus?

You are advised to visit the private hostel of your choice to make enquiries on application, as their applications and registrations vary. Directions to the hostels are provided above.

Conclusion

Ensure to make all the necessary enquiries on the hall or hostel you want to go to before the date of application, as there will not be enough time and the rooms get fully booked fast, within a couple of minutes.
