After senior high school, you will be required to apply to any of your preferred nursing training schools using your WASSCE results. This has become a challenge for many who do not meet the grade requirements for this programme.

What is the grade requirement for applying Degree in Nursing in Ghana?
To apply for a degree in nursing in Ghana, you need to have at least A1-C6 in 3 core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and any other 3 electives with an aggregate of not more than 36.

How to Apply to Nursing Training with D7 or E8 in WASSCE
This is a guide on how to apply to Nursing Training in Ghana with D7 or E8 in WASSCE
- List out all the subjects you got D7 or E8
- Make sure you do not have E8 or F9 in either English, Maths or Integrated Science
- Make sure you have only 1 E8 or F9 in your elective subjects
- Sum the grades of English, Maths, Integrated Science and three of your best elective subjects
- Make sure the total sum of your grades is not more than 24
- Identify the exact training college you want to attend and confirm if they have a diploma programme
- Buy forms and apply
Kindly note that, if you got D7 in one of the three core subjects or electives you are applying with, you will not be admitted for a diploma or degree programme. If you have a D7, I suggest you rewrite to get a better grade or apply for a certificate programme which you can top up afterwards.

WASSCE applicants are required to pay close attention to various subjects so they get good grades in them. Nursing Training is your first step into building the professional skills you need to excel in your nursing career. Some of the important SHS subjects you need to study nursing in Ghana are;

Can I apply for nursing training with D7 in Integrated Science?
You can apply to Nursing Training with D7 in Integrated Science for a certificate programme. This will help applicants who cannot apply directly for a diploma or degree programme to enter and later top up to upgrade.

Can I apply for nursing training with E8?
Yes, you can apply for nursing training with E8 in WASSCE. This is only possible for applicants who got E8 in Social Studies or 1 elective subject. In this case, you can still apply with your remaining subjects since you only need 3 core subjects and 3 electives. However, if you got these grades in English, Maths, Science or any of the three elective subjects, you can consider a certificate programme or an option to rewrite those papers through NOV/DEC.
I failed in maths, can I go to nursing training?
If you failed in Maths, you cannot apply to nursing school in Ghana, you may be required to register NOV/DEC and write for a better grade.
Can I become a nurse with Home Econs?
Yes you can pursue nursing with a Home Econs background, you will have to work a little extra to catch up with all the detailed science-related areas.
